Road crews are getting a bit of a break on Thursday after one heck of a day yesterday.
PennDOT District 10 Maintenance Manager Mike Mattis said his entire fleet of 42 trucks took to the roads at 1 a.m. Wednesday to pre-treat before the snow started falling. And, they continued working until late last night.
“The snow started about 3:30 a.m. and it snowed about one inch per hour. We got a lot of snow,” Mattis said. “I appreciate the patience from the traveling public.”
According to the National Weather Service, our next snow chance comes late tonight. We’re only expected to see new accumulation of about a half of inch.
If we’re sick of snow here…what about our friends to the north? Erie has set a new record for the snowiest winter on record.
More than 149.6 inches of snow has fallen so far this year, breaking the previous record of 149.1 inches. That’s more than 12 feet of snow.
And it’s only February.
The previous record was set during the 2000-2001 season.
