A bill designed to help school districts with an ongoing shortage of substitute teachers is being considered by the state House of Representatives.
The state Senate passed Senate Bill 1312 last week to deal with the problem many districts have been having filling short term teaching vacancies.
This bill would allow college students who have completed 60 credit hours and who are enrolled in a teacher preparation program at a four year college in the state to substitute for a limited number of days.
Many districts have had to resort to outsource their substitutes or request emergency permits which disrupts the learning process.
