The Butler Transit Authority has awarded a fixed route contract with a different subcontractor who will take over management of bus drivers and maintenance workers.
At their Tuesday night meeting, the Authority approved a three year deal effective July 1st with MV Transportation at a cost of just over $2.3 million with an option for two additional years.
MV Transportation is based out of Dallas, Texas but will have a general manager based in the Transit Authority facility offices. MV Transportation currently is the subcontractor for the Mid-Mon Valley Transit Authority which utilizes Compressed Natural Gas buses as Butler Transit Authority anticipates doing in the near future.
Butler Motor Transit has handled operations and maintenance for the Authority since 2003-04 but the new contract with MV Transportation is expected to save the Authority about $160,000 annually. Seven full time bus drivers and six part time drivers as well as one full time maintenance person and one part time will be given the option to interview in order to continue in their positions at the Authority as employees of MV Transportation.
