Pennsylvania State Representative-Elect Marci Mustello took the oath of office late Tuesday morning and officially began her term as state rep for the 11th Legislative District.
Mustello was sworn in at 11:30 a.m. inside the chamber of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. She was joined by her parents, as well as other family and friends.
48-year-old Mustello, of Butler Township, beat out Democratic challenger Sam Doctor in last month’s special election. She will replace former State Rep. Brian Ellis, who resigned earlier this year amid allegations of sexual assault.
“I’ve known (Marci) for some time,” Pa. Speaker of the House Mike Turzai said following the swearing-in. “She has dedicated the past 20 years of her life to public service. She has served under both U.S. Congressman Phil English and U.S. Congressman Mike Kelly in running a congressional district office, leading a nonprofit organization, and working with community leaders on so many fronts…to make Butler County as outstanding as it can be.”
The speaker noted Mustello is the 54th woman to be a member of the state House.

Mustello has already spent time in Harrisburg since winning the May election.
“I’m ready to hit the ground running,” Mustello said in an interview the day after she won the special election, and she was already en route to the Capitol. “I”m excited to get back to work. It’s just going to be in a different capacity- instead of going to Washington, D.C., I’m going to Harrisburg.”
Mustello spent the last eight years serving under U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, of Butler.
The 11th District includes both the city of Butler and Butler Township, as well as several other townships and boroughs including Oakland, Summit, Chicora, Connoquenessing, Karns City, Petrolia, Prospect and Saxonburg.
Former State Rep. Brian Ellis held the 11th District seat for 15 years before resigning in March.
