New legislation that would overhaul the State System of Higher Education is now awaiting the signature of Governor Tom Wolf.
Last week, the state Senate approved the legislation that could result in consolidation of schools, the sharing of services, and creating affiliations between the 14 schools that make up PASSHE—including Slippery Rock University.
Dave Pidgeon is the Director of Public Relations for PASSHE and he cited an example of creating a collective school of healthcare that could be utilized by students across the state.
“What if the state system, comprised of 14 universities and 96,000 students, used our scale and size to able to more cost effectively create a school of healthcare that can be applicable to multiple universities,” Pidgeon said. “This legislation would allow us to make changes like that.”
Pidgeon said this legislation will give the state system a chance to be sustainable and successful for the future.
