New Kacey Musgraves album out today

Kacey Musgraves‘ new album, Pageant Material, arrives at retail today (Tuesday, June 23rd). Kacey co-wrote all 13 songs on the project, including her current single, “Biscuits.”

Kacey hardly seems the type to sing about a beauty pageant, but she says it’s the message in the song that got her thinking that “Pageant Material” was the perfect title for her sophomore CD. “I just had this big basket of songs and no concept or theme had super presented itself, but then after I kind of started really thinking about ‘Pageant Material’ I got really inspired by the imagery that I saw whenever I really thought about it, and I started really getting into researching like pageants from 1967, you know, that era of pageants, and it’s such a cool image to me, and you know, other than that I just really liked kind of the message behind the song and I thought it’d be a fun aesthetic for the record and just the fun overall tone just to say, you know, ‘I am what I am.'”

Kacey is set to perform today on ABC’s Good Morning America and tomorrow (Wednesday, June 24th) on The View.

She will also the celebrate her album release with an in-store performance and album signing at Brooklyn’s Rough Trade today.
