Summit Township Elementary School will be closed the rest of this week due to recent water tests discovering further contamination.
A press release distributed Monday night by Butler Area School District administrators revealed that a sample collected last Friday (1/27) of untreated well water contained E Coli bacteria.
The well water at Summit undergoes disinfection treatment at the school and a sample of water taken after the disinfection treatment also last Friday did not contain the E Coli bacteria.
The PA DEP requires that customers of treated water be notified of the presence of E Coli in the untreated water. The district plans to conduct a sanitary survey of the well and delivery system to determine the cause of the contamination before taking action approved by the DEP to install a treatment system.
