State police are warning of a scam after a man from New Castle lost nearly $20,000.
According to police, the scam happened this past October to a 67-year-old man. His computer showed a pop-up message that his computer had become infected with malware.
The man called the number on the screen and eventually sent $15,000 to a home in San Diego. He also gave the scammers nearly $4,000 in gift card codes that he purchased.
Police warn people to be cautious of pop-up ads and to never call the number provided on the screen.
