Construction is continuing on two projects at the Butler Senior High School but a change of plans is expected to result in additional expense.
The Butler Area School District Board of Directors heard an update Monday night from the district’s construction manager on the Auxiliary Gym project as well as the classroom expansion project.
Superintendent Dr. Brian White discussed the reasoning behind a new configuration of eight restrooms in the classroom addition which could add up to $200,000 to the project total.
“Coming out of student requests and talking to faculty and principals about security and privacy, the students would much rather prefer individuals bathrooms that are in an L-shape [in the building]. Each room would have an individual doors, and individual toilets and sinks in each one,” White said. “We think this will cut down on the vandalism we’ve experienced in the last couple of years in the bathrooms and/or inappropriate contraband or behavioral kind of things. We think this will solve a lot of issues for us.”
The Board also approved a couple of other change orders for wall modifications and door and hardware changes totaling over $23,000.
The auxiliary gym project is scheduled to be completed in mid-August before school starts but work on the classroom addition is expected to continue into the fall.
