A new bill would set protocols for schools if they have to remove a tick from a child at school.
The proposal was approved by the Senate’s Education Committee earlier this week. It says that school nurses would have to notify a child’s parent before removing a tick.
Senator Michele Brooks explains why she created the bill.
“I was hearing from parents that they had not been notified that the child had a tick removed and that the child starting showing symptoms,” Brooks said. “And they couldn’t figure out where the child had been bitten by the tick.”
The bill was not unanimous though, with some Senators saying it was an overly prescriptive mandate.
