A new bill is being proposed that would ban smoking in more indoor locations, including casinos.
State Representative Dan Frankel says that when the pandemic first hit, one of the restrictions was to ban smoking in casinos. He’s hoping that now becomes permanent.
When despondent casino and bar employees called my office last year shocked that the COVID restrictions were getting lifted, they told me again and again that the hard part was over. The smokers had adjusted,” Frankel said. “And then the ashtrays came back out.”
Frankel says that while there may be some push back, these situations have happened before.
“There was a time when you could smoke in a pediatrician office, you could smoke on an airplane until 1990, and we banned it in restaurants 2008,” Frankel said. “Each time smokers objected, and then they adjusted.”
The bill would also impact private clubs and drinking establishments that still permit smoking.
