Poll watchers have become more popular in the past couple of years, and a new bill could possibly expand where they go.
The House State Government Committee approved a bill that would allow poll watchers to be from counties other than their own.
Republican State Representative Russ Diamond said his concern is that counties operate elections differently.
“If we allow from watchers anywhere in Pennsylvania that will help cement that elections are being performed uniformly across the state,” Diamond said.
However, Democrat Scott Conklin said he’s concerned about situations that would arise.
“It could be violent. It could be other things. Where individuals who don’t know the community, don’t know the folks that are there coming in and not understanding where they’re at and maybe inadvertently causing animosity between the voters.
The bill now moves to the House of Representatives.
