A new bill aims to bring more access of mental health services.
State Representative Wendi Thomas of Bucks County says her bill would create a grant program to extend mental health services to a primary care setting.
“It’s where they put a mental health professional, a social worker, behavioral health, psychologist, that links up with primary care and then they put a psychiatrist who does rounding with many rounding offices so that the primary care feels more secure in prescribing medication and helping the people get mental health,” Thomas said.
Thomas says her legislation would also integrate physical health and behavioral health which has been proven to be better for people and cost-effective.
