A new bill passed by the state house aims to crack down on catalytic converter thefts.
The legislation would add required steps before a catalytic converter can be sold to a scrap yard.
It includes…
- Individuals that are trying to sell a catalytic converter must be able to provide the scrap yard with the year, make, model, and vehicle identification number.
- Buyers of the converters must take photos of both the catalytic converter and the individual selling it.
- Sellers would not receive the money for the catalytic converter until 48 hours after the sale.
The bill now moves to the state senate.
