Some progress was made in the most recent negotiating session between the South Butler School Board and its teachers union but the sides continue to disagree on several important issues.
According to a negotiation update posted by the school board, during a session held Wednesday night, the two sides finalized an agreement regarding the issue of involuntary transfers. The teachers then gave the board a comprehensive written proposal.
Under the 6-year offer made by the union, average teacher salaries would increase from almost $57,000 to nearly $71,000, while under the 5-year deal proposed by the board, salaries would increase to just over $64,000.
The board also provided the teachers with four draft tentative agreements, including a compromise on health care plan choice conditions.
A message left for the Pennsylvania State Education Association representative handling theses negotiations was not immediately returned.
The parties have scheduled two additional bargaining sessions for March 9 and 27 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
