Sprint Cup Series teams will get a head start on race weekend at Kentucky Speedway with a pair of practice sessions today in advance of Saturday night’s Quaker State 400. NASCAR announced last month that it would implement a new rules package specific to this race – featuring less downforce, a smaller rear spoiler and a new front splitter in an effort to generate more competitive racing on the mile-and-a-half ovals. In addition, Goodyear is supplying a tire that provides more grip. Today’s sessions are scheduled from 3 to 5 pm. and 6 to 8 pm. Late Tuesday afternoon, NASCAR also unveiled new rules for upcoming Sprint Cup Series races at Michigan International Speedway, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Darlington Raceway
. Through the first seventeen races this season, lead changes in the Sprint Cup Series are down twenty percent from the first seventeen events of 2014.
