Sprint Cup Series teams will get a head start on race weekend at Kentucky Speedway with a pair of practice sessions today in advance of Saturday night’s Quaker State 400. NASCAR announced last month that it would implement a new rules package specific to this race – featuring less downforce, a smaller rear spoiler and a new front splitter in an effort to generate more competitive racing on the mile-and-a-half ovals. In addition, Goodyear is supplying a tire that provides more grip. Today’s sessions are scheduled from 3 to 5 pm. and 6 to 8 pm. Late Tuesday afternoon, NASCAR also unveiled new rules for upcoming Sprint Cup Series races at Michigan International Speedway, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Darlington Raceway. Through the first seventeen races this season, lead changes in the Sprint Cup Series are down twenty percent from the first seventeen events of 2014.
