Despite the threat of impending weather conditions, the race weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway gets started early today with practice sessions in both the Sprint Cup and X-FINITY Series. Cup Series teams hit the mile-and-a-half North Carolina oval first with opening practice at 1:30 p.m this afternoon. Martin Truex Junior won this year’s first race at C-M-S in May and another victory Saturday would make him the first Cup Series driver with a season sweep there since Kasey Kahne in 2006. Fans and race officials will be keeping their eyes on Hurricane Matthew, which is expected to bring some rain to the Carolinas as the weekend gets underway.
Hear Saturday’s Cup race on WBUT 1050am beginning at 6:30pm.
