The Nascar Sprint Cup and X-Finity Series will race under the lights at Daytona International Speedway the next two nights. Hear coverage of the Cup race Saturday on WBUT 1050am and at wbut.com beginning at 6:30pm. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is the defending race winner. That was the race that was delayed by rain and did not end until 2:30am the next morning. It featured a late-race crash that sent Austin Dillon’s #3-car into the catch fence and ended with his car upside down without an engine. Dillon walked away from the accident.
Fox Chapel native Chip Ganassi has been inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame. Ganassi owns several cars that compete in different touring series including Nascar and IndyCar. Hie the first owner to have won the Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500, Brickyard 400, Rolex 24 and the 12 hours of Sebring. Before becoming an owner, Ganassi competed as a driver and raced in the Indy 500 five times.
Lernerville Speedway will host the BOSS Wingless Sprint cars tonight along with the RUSH Late Models and two Sportsman Series. Racing begins at 7:30pm.
The annual “Auto Racers for Kids” night with three classes of sprint cars will race at Mercer Raceway Park Saturday.
