NASCAR haulers will arrive at Martinsville Speedway today as preparations continue for this weekend’s Sprint Cup-Camping World Truck Series doubleheader. The first on-track action will come with opening practice for Sprint Cup competitors on Friday at 11 am.
NASCAR has announced new guidelines for participation that limit the number of X-FINITY and Camping World Truck Series races a Sprint Cup driver can compete in. Starting next season, Cup Series drivers with more than five years of full-time experience will be eligible to compete in a maximum of ten races in the XFINITY Series and seven in the Truck Series. Those drivers will be ineligible to compete in the final eight races in each series, which include the regular season finale and the entirety of the Chase in each series. The new guidelines were drawn up to put an even brighter spotlight on the next generation of stars and bolster the identity of all three of its national series. Drivers with more than five years of full-time experience in the Cup Series still can run for an X-FINITY or Camping World Truck Series championship, but have to declare their intent for championship points in the respective series.
