A former Butler County man accused of killing a Pitt student has been charged with rape in a separate incident.
Police on Thursday charged 21-year-old Matthew Darby with raping a 17-year-old girl just days before he’s accused of killing his ex-girlfriend.
According to the criminal complaint, Darby first met the teen at a party at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. They exchanged texts and phone calls until Darby asked her to go out to dinner. Police say he picked her up, took her to a wooded area and raped her.
Darby was arrested last week after skipping town and trying to break into a home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The suspect now lives in Greensburg. He formerly lived in Cranberry Township and graduated from Seneca Valley High School in 2014. While there, he was a standout basketball player.
