Butler County is working on constructing a 15-mile mountain bike and hiking trail system in Butler Township’s Alameda Park.
The trail is known as the Alameda Park Single Track. It’s currently six miles long and has several access points.
“Construction started in September of 2015,” Butler County Parks and Recreation Director Lance Welliver said in an interview.
The trails are being built according to the International Mountain Bike Association’s guidelines. Much of the work is being done by volunteers.
“We’re fortunate to have a lot of people helping,” he said. “This is a great opportunity to bring people to the park from outside the county.”
Welliver says people have been coming from outside the county- and even outside the state- to ride on the park’s trails. Four mountain bike races are scheduled in the park this year.
