NFL:
The Oakland Raiders, who acquired for Antonio Brown in March after he forced a trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers, will be this year’s participant on HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” the NFL announced Tuesday night.
The award-winning show, which chronicles a team’s training camp highlights and lowlights each summer, airs its first of five episode about the Raiders on Aug. 6. It is Oakland’s first time appearing on “Hard Knocks.”
U.S. WOMEN WORLD CUP OPENING GAME:
Defending champion the United States steamrolled Thailand 13-0 in their opening game of the Women’s World Cup in France on Tuesday, breaking the record for goals and margin of victory in a World Cup game.
Alex Morgan tied the World Cup record with five goals. The Americans, who are ranked Number 1 in the world, will next play Chile on Sunday, and then Sweden after that in their final match of the group round.
DAVID ORTIZ :
Retired Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz underwent a second surgery after returning to Boston late Monday from his native Dominican Republic, where he was shot in an ambush attack at a bar on Sunday, according to media reports Tuesday. Ortiz was said to be in stable condition after the exploratory surgery, which followed the initial emergency surgery in the Dominican Republic in which his gallbladder and part of his intestine was removed. Ortiz is expected to make a full recovery. Dominican authorities are investigating the attack, but the gunman is still at large and his motive unknown.
