Food options will continue to be more varied in the Butler Area School District with the continued roll-out of one program and another likely to begin next year.
According to representatives from Nutrition Group, the introduction of a cold fruit and vegetable line at Northwest Elementary has resulted in more kids enjoying the food there. All elementary buildings in the district are expected to get their own cold line later this month. Northwest is scheduled to have a line of hot foods in place before the end of the school year. Nutrition plans to have a line of hot foods in place at all the other elementary schools in the district by the beginning of next school year.
Nutrition Group is also planning on moving forward with an after-school dinner program at the high school beginning this fall. All students staying after school for activities would be eligible for a free dinner through this federally funded program. The program would also be able to be tailored specifically to only operate on days needed by the district.
