The construction of a dog park in Butler Township is going to take longer than originally expected.
Jade’s Dog Park, inside county-owned Alameda Park, was made possible in large-part through a substantial donation from an anonymous local private donor. Construction started last year and Phase 1 of the project was expected to be done this spring…that has now been pushed back until fall because of bad weather.
Several local individuals and businesses also contributed. The Butler County Association of Realtors presented a $2,200 check to the Butler County Commissioners Wednesday.
There are no county funds being used to build the park. Board Chairman Leslie Osche voiced concerns if taxpayer funds would be needed to maintain the park.
County Parks and Recreation Director Gary Pinkerton said his existing maintenance crew will be able to take on the additional workload. The county will have to provide doggie bags but Pinkerton said his department is exploring ways to get those paid for- either by additional donations or advertising.
