More details have been released about an outbreak of the avian flu in Butler County.
Department of Agriculture officials confirmed the outbreak at Seggond Chance Farm in Cranberry Township.
The farm serves as a sanctuary home to abandoned and abused birds—including chickens, ducks, turkeys, and more.
Farm officials say they initially saw the flu in turkeys in early February. The virus soon spread quickly to other birds in the farm.
Testing confirmed it was highly pathogenic avian influenza, which resulted in hundreds of birds having to be euthanized.
It’s the first confirmed outbreak of avian influenza in Butler County.
