More details are emerging on the collapse of the Fern Hollow Bridge in Pittsburgh.
Newly released records show that eight years ago, the state ordered more frequent inspections of the bridge in Point Breeze.
It came after major concerns about the bridge were found in 2018, including rusting and a detached X-shaped bracing. Now, engineers did replace the bracing with steel cables, but other repairs that were not considered urgent were pushed off and never done.
The bridge was downgraded to poor condition in 2011.
