Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which means many places are closed.
Local government offices, including the Butler County Government Center, Butler Courthouse and district courts are closed. Most schools won’t hold class today. It is a federal holiday so the post office is closed, as well as most banks.
King was the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movements, which successfully protested racial discrimination in federal and state law.
MLK Jr. Day was not officially observed in all 50 states until the year 2000.
