In the Major League Baseball Playoffs:
–Houston defeated the Boston Red Sox 8-2 last evening in Game One of their American League Division Series. Astros second baseman Jose Altuve hit three solo home runs, including two off Boston starting pitcher Chris Sale. Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander earned the victory. He is 6-0 with Houston since begin acquired from Detroit late in the season. Houston will host Boston today at 2:05pm.
–The Cleveland Indians shut-out the New York Yankees 4-0 in their A.L. Division Series opener. Trevor Bauer allowed just two Yankees hits while pitching into the seventh inning. Jay Bruce hit a home run and drove in three runs for the Indians. The two teams play again today in Cleveland at 5:08pm.
The National League Divisional Series begin today. The defending World Series Champions, the Chicago Cubs visit the Washington Nationals tonight at 7:30pm.
The Los Angeles Dodgers host the National League Wild Card winners, the Arizona Diamondbacks at 10:30pm.
Members of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization delivered 460,000 pounds of hurricane relief supplies to Puerto Rico Thursday. The items were collected from public donations this week that were dropped off to PNC Park. Pirates chairman Bob Nutting, president Frank Coonelly, along with players Sean Rodriguez and Francisco Cervelli were part of the trip.
