Friday marks the 34th anniversary of a local missing persons case that continues to go unsolved.
On Feb. 22 1985, eight-year-old Cherrie Mahan was dropped off at her bus stop after going to school at the South Butler School District, but disappeared before she made it the 300 feet to her Cornplanter Road home in Cabot.
While no arrests have been made since her disappearance, the case still remains with the Pennsylvania State Police as the investigating agency. Many tips and leads have been offered over the years, but the investigation remains ongoing.
Mahan would have turned 42 years old this year.

Cherrie Mahan’s mother spoke to WPXI-TV this year and said she hopes an anonymous tip will help police crack this cold case.
Janice McKinney said she received a handwritten letter last summer detailing who killed her daughter, why they did it, and where her body could be found. The letter was signed by someone calling themselves “Pastor Justice.”
McKinney says she turned the letter over to police but never heard back.
Police told WPXI they are still working on the case, and another tip led them to search an Armstrong junkyard and an old mine shaft in Butler County within the last year.
Following her disappearance 34 years ago today, Cherrie was the first child to be featured on the mailers sent out by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
