Miss Universe will be in Butler County on Friday.
Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, of South Africa, is using her title and celebrity to raise awareness about women and self-defense. She is currently on an international tour, which will bring her into Cranberry Township where she will host a program called “Unbreakable.”
Nel-Peters will be joined with self-defense experts, trainers and other educators to teach women how to deal with extreme situations, including sexual harassment, assault and abusive relationships. The free program will be held at 6 p.m. on Aug. 24 in the Cranberry Township Municipal Center and all are welcome. Miss Universe will be joined by fellow titleholders Olivia Suchko, Miss Pennsylvania USA, and Kailey Grill, who is currently Miss Pennsylvania Teen USA. All will be available for photographs and autographs.
Nel-Peters says she, herself, is a survivor of assault, which helped spur her efforts to teach others.
