A Mercer County man was killed in a chain reaction crash Thursday morning.
According to State Police in Mercer, the crash occurred on Route 62 Sharon Mercer Road in East Lackawannock Township around 7:30 a.m.
At that time for an unknown reason, a vehicle driven by 83-year-old Maynard Ackerman of New Wilmington traveled into the oncoming lane. His vehicle hit an ambulance almost head on and traveled back into the correct lane where it impacted a third vehicle. The ambulance then hit a fourth vehicle and fifth vehicle head on.
The driver of the fifth vehicle, 50 year old Charles Weekes of Jackson Center, was airlifted to Mercy Health in Youngstown where he died from his injuries. Ackerman and the ambulance driver had to be extricated and treated for injuries.
Ackerman is facing charges for failure to drive on the correct side of the road.
