Butler City Mayor Tom Donaldson will not sign a settlement agreement with the City Fire Department.
The settlement was passed by a 3-2 vote of City Council last week but Donaldson voted against the measure at that time.
The City Fire Department union filed a grievance against the City after the City made passing a civil service test a requirement of pending promotions. The settlement would permit the promotions without testing and allow similar grievances to be filed in the future under similar circumstances.
Donaldson made the decision to not sign the settlement after consulting the city solicitor as well as the Mayor’s Association. Donaldson says that the settlement is in direct violation of state regulations and against his oath of office.
