Butler City Fire Chief George “Nick” Ban is being demoted.
Mayor Tom Donaldson notified Ban Monday morning of the demotion. He will return to his previous rank of lieutenant. The move is effective Saturday (April 9) at midnight.
Donaldson did not provide a definitive reason for the move other than stating it was ‘time to make a change.’
“After much thought and evaluation, I decided to make a change,” Donaldson said. He noted the move should not be seen in anyway as a mark on Ban’s character.
The mayor intends to name someone from the department interim chief this week. He said he does not have a permanent replacement set.
“I will look within the department but may also look outside (the department) as well,” Donaldson said.
Reached by phone Monday morning, Chief Ban said he did not have a comment.
