The mayor of Butler has appointed himself to a city authority.
After action taken last week, Mayor Tom Donaldson now has a seat on the Board of Directors for the City of Butler Redevelopment Authority.
Due to a resignation by one of the authority members, a seat with a five-year term beginning this past June was open. The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Butler was formed with the goal of attracting business, creating jobs and encouraging growth through projects like the Centre City hotel, parking garage and Rite Aid. The authority also administers many state grants in areas like housing rehabilitation.
The issue did not come before Butler City Council because in the third class city code, the mayor has the authority to appoint members to boards like the Redevelopment Authority.
