Mars native Carter Schade made history Monday when he was selected first overall in the United States Hockey League draft. He is the first local player to achieve that honor. Schade is a 16-year old defenseman from the Penguins Elite youth hockey program. He was selected as the top overall pick by the Lincoln Stars of the USHL, which is the top junior hockey league in the United States. Schade is also a Penn State recruit. Four other players were taken from the area, including Ty Voit of Wexford, who was selected by Cedar Rapids with the ninth overall pick in the first round.
