The Mars Area School Board continues to move forward with an expansion project at their elementary school.
At their meeting last week, board members heard about design plan options and gave some direction to the planning committee about the best use of space, traffic patterns, and dealing with protected wetlands areas around the facility.
This committee meets weekly and is made up of Mars administrators, project managers, and representatives of the architectural firm contracted by the district. As part of the ongoing design process, board members will receive another update at their next meeting in October.
This $24 million project includes a new wing at the elementary school. Once completed, the new facility would house kindergarten through third grade students.
Tuesday night the Mars board also approved a proposal from Cernica Engineering Inc to provide geotechnical engineering services for this project in the amount of just over $16,000.
