The Mars Area School District is continuing to consider the future of the large electronic sign in front of the High School.
The sign will need to be relocated from the current location due to the PennDOT Route 228 construction project now underway.
Earlier this week, the Mars Area School Board discussed possible new locations as well as maybe investing in a new sign since the current sign is over 10 years old and nearing the end of its useful life.
PennDOT has offered $90,000 towards the cost of moving or replacing the sign as part of a nearly $1.5 million compensation offer for land that will be taken from the district for the project.
The district’s legal council is in the process of attempting to increase the amount of that payment. It has not yet been determined when the sign will need to be taken down.
