The Mars Area School District will be able to offer five flexible instructional days during the current school year if necessary.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education recently approved the district’s request to offer the days that will allow the district to still operate even when classes are cancelled due to bad weather.
The new flexible instructional days have students participate in online classes, which take the place of in-person classes for that day.
Students and parents will be notified of a flexible instructional day the same way they would hear about school closings or delays.
Teachers will utilize the district’s Schoology software to post lessons or assignments as well as have availability for questions during the day. Students will have five school days following the flexible instruction day in which to complete the work assigned during the flexible instruction day or they will receive a zero grade and be marked absent. Paper copies of all lessons will be made available for those without internet.
The revised Mars School calendar changes Monday, April 13th from a snow make up day to a vacation day. Thursday, June 11th will stay as the first snow make up day if needed. Should the district need five additional make up days, the Flexible Instructional Days will be used.
