The Mars Area School Board has decided to join a couple of lawsuits.
After hearing from solicitor Tom King of Dillon, McCandless, King, Coulter, and Graham Tuesday night, board members approved a resolution to authorize the retention of council for litigation that would attempt to recover health care costs spent on inflated prices for insulin. Several other local districts have already joined in this suit and similar to other recent suits against makers of e-cigarettes and social media companies, there is no cost to the district since legal fees will be paid out of any damages awarded.
By a vote of 7 to 2, the board also approved a motion join South Side School District in Beaver County in filing a complaint for declaratory judgment against the Pennsylvania School Board Association in the United States District Court for Western Pennsylvania. Mars and other districts recently received cease and desist letters from the PSBA concerning continued use of policies accessed when they were members of the organization. King maintains that the policies rightfully belong to the district.
