The Mars Area School Board continues to work through the process of an expansion project at their elementary school.
At their meeting Tuesday night, board members heard from a representative of the design and architectural firm concerning the latest plans for the $24 million 53,000 square foot addition.
Mars administrators have already given input on this three story expansion which includes kindergarten on the main floor connecting to the current building that houses second and third grades, first grade with a new cafeteria and kitchen on the ground floor, and more first grade classrooms on a lower level.
Teachers will also be consulted for certain decisions as the process continues. The new facility will also include two play areas and expanded parking.
The district has received an A+ positive outlook bond rating with bonds expected to be issued sometime over the next three weeks. Grading the site is currently underway and construction could begin next summer.
