The Mars Area School Board is taking the next step towards beginning the expansion project at their elementary school.
At their meeting Tuesday night, the board approved a resolution to advertise for bids for relocation of a conduit for electrical lines which must be moved before construction can begin.
Board members also heard from a representative of the design and architectural firm concerning the interior design of the $24 million 53,000 square foot addition.
This three story expansion includes kindergarten on the main floor connecting to the current building that houses second and third grades, first grade with a new cafeteria and kitchen on the ground floor, and more first grade classrooms on a lower level.
The next step in this process is preparing construction documents so that contracts can be awarded in May. Construction is scheduled to continue through the summer of 2026.
