The Mars School Board has approved two large change orders on the project to construct new softball fields.
At a meeting Tuesday, the board unanimously voted to approve a change order of $210,000 for construction company Murin and Murn. According to Superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley, the increased funding allows for changing the scope of the project with one field to have turf installed and the other natural grass.
The board also approved the purchase of the synthetic turf from Pro Grass and have it installed for a cost not to exceed $165,000.
A second change order approved by the board Tuesday night was for an additional $29,000. This will be used for dealing with a greater amount of topsoil than expected, as well as installing a pipe to deal with a spring under a parking area.
Field construction is ahead of schedule and should be complete by the middle of December which would allow for games in the spring of 2017.
