Mars high school diver Taylor Hockenberry won the WPIAL Class 3-A championship Saturday at the Pitt Trees Pool. It is her third WPIAL title. The previous two were at the Class 2-A level. Hockenberry has won the state title at the 2-A level the past two seasons as well. The State championships will be held March 15-18th.
WPIAL Section-3 Individual Wrestling championships:
–Alex Hornfeck of Mars won the 126lb title.
–five North Allegheny wrestlers won championships.
–Three wrestlers from Pine-Richland won titles.
–The Butler high school girls indoor track and field team set three more school records Saturday at the state championships held at Penn State. Alexis Leech finished sixth overall, but broke her own school record in the 400-meter run. Her time of 56.72 seconds topped the 57.33 seconds she ran last week at Edinboro University.
–Leech anchored the 3200-meter relay team of Maddie Tonini, Liz Simms and Shana Hoy to another school record, topping their old record set last week by six seconds. They finished sixth overall.
–Liz Simms set a new school record in the 800-meter run, breaking the record set by Amanda Malecki in 2005. She finished 13th overall.
