The Mars Area School Board is considering a couple options when it comes to making major improvements to the district’s Middle School.
The board recently reviewed a report that detailed more than $16 million in repairs needed to the school, including HVAC, plumbing and issues with the roof.
The first proposal presented to the board would cost $12 to $14 million in order to make repairs to the building exterior, update the HVAC system, and modernize academic spaces. The second option would focus on the construction of a new, three-story classroom tower to be located in the current parking lot near the main entrance. That option would also involve relocation and expansion of parking as well as increasing overall capacity for a cost of $20 to $22 million.
The board could vote on the direction of the project within the next few months and construction could begin in the fall of 2019.
