High School Sports:
Boys Basketball:
–Mars defeated Milton Hershey 62-61 last night in the Western Region semifinals. Cade Hetzler hit the game-winning basket with nine seconds remaining in the game. Robby Carmody led the Planets with 22 points. Mike Carmody added 16. Mars (25-4) will face Abington Heights (26-3) in Hershey Friday at 8pm for the 5A state title. Abington Heights defeated Bonner-Prendergast 56-51 in overtime last night in the other semifinal.
–Pine-Richland will meet Philadelphia Roman Catholic Thursday at Chambersburg high school in the 6A semifinals. Tip-off is 6pm. (the game was postponed from Tuesday)
Girls Basketball:
–A doubleheader of two local teams was to be be played at Bald Eagle Area high school tonight, but has been postponed until Thursday because of inclement weather.
Mars will face Archbishop Carroll at 5pm in the 5A semifinals Thursday..
Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic will meet Berks Catholic in the 4A semifinals Thursday at 7pm.
–The North Allegheny girls lost their first game of the season last night, a 52-49 loss to Central Bucks South in the 6A semifinals.
Penguins Cup Hockey Championship:
–Seneca Valley will meet Peters Township in the 3A title game at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex at 8:30pm. –Armstrong and Quaker Valley meet in the 2A championship at 5:30pm.
