High School Sports:
–The Mars boys basketball team are heading to the first-ever WPIAL championship game after defeating Trinity 56-39 last night in the 5A semifinals. Robby Carmody led Mars with 30 points. The Planets will face Franklin Regional, who defeated Highlands 48-40 last night in the other semifinal. That title game will be played Friday at the Petersen Events Center at 9pm. Both teams enter the game 20-4 overall.
–Tonight, the Mars girls (19-5) will face Oakland Catholic (16-8) in the 5A semifinals. The game will be played at North Hills high school and tip-off is 8pm.
–The North Allegheny girls are heading to the WPIAL 6A championship game after defeating Mt. Lebanon 34-20. The Tigers improved to 24-0 and will meet Peters Township (21-3) in the title game Saturday at 7pm at the Pete.
–The AC Valley girls meet Otto-Eldred tonight in their first-ever District-9 championship game. The 1A title game begins at 6:30pm at St. Mary’s high school. The Falcons enter the game 19-4 overall. Otto-Eldred is 20-3.
