The Mars Area School Board has approved a plan to improve their special education programming.
The board voted during a special meeting on Monday to approve the 12-page ‘Special Education Corrective Action Verification and Improvement Plan,’ which includes specific recommendations from district administrative staff.
The recommendations include increasing staff training; maintaining ongoing parent trainings; and continuing to develop support programs for students with specific learning disabilities.
The district hired a new director of special education last month. Travis Mineard will start work on July 30.
Special education programming at Mars has been under fire after the district received an unfavorable audit from the state.
