An early Wednesday morning police chase in southern Butler County ended with the driver dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The chase started about 1 a.m. on Route 8 and traveled through Middlesex and Penn townships. The driver has not yet been identified by police.
A Middlesex Township police officer was reportedly conducting speed enforcement on Route 8 near Mystic Lanes when he first spotted the man’s pickup truck. The officer attempted to pull the man over but he continued driving northbound.
He eventually pulled over on Route 8 near Airport Road, got out of the car and shot himself.
