A Johnstown man has been sentenced for charges in connection with a drug bust in Middlesex Township over two years ago.
Andrew Edwards, 32, will serve 13 years in prison followed by six years of supervised release after being convicted in federal court on charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon, carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime, and possession with intent to distribute heroin and crack cocaine.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney Scott Brady on Wednesday.
According to prosecutors, Edwards was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for traffic violations in Middlesex Township, Butler County in April 2016. The driver gave the officer permission to search the vehicle. In the backseat, where Edwards had been seated, officers observed a jacket and a backpack. From the jacket, officers recovered 528 bags of heroin, and a plastic baggie containing crack cocaine.
From the backpack, officers recovered a semi-automatic handgun with six rounds in the magazine.
The FBI and Middlesex Township Police Department collaborated on this investigation.
