A mobile home in Cherry Township was destroyed by fire but no one was injured Sunday afternoon.
The fire started just before 3 p.m. at a trailer on Moniteau Road.
“They did have heavy smoke with the flames showing in the middle of the trailer coming out the kitchen window,” West Sunbury Fire Chief Matt Wilson said. “We hit from the exterior and darkened it down and then we went in the front door and extinguished the fire.”
Several fire departments were called to the scene.
According to Wilson, the cause of the fire has been ruled accidental with the point of origin at the kitchen stove.
“A man said he was in a little bit of a rush and he was using an old electric stove and he flipped the wrong burner on,” Wilson said.
A pot of grease ended up catching fire.
“He jumped out of his bedroom window when he saw smoke,” he said.
Five other people also lived at the residence but were not at home at the time of the fire. The Red Cross has been contacted for assistance.
